January saw Aviva as the first UK company to create an insurance based skill for Alexa, Amazon's cloud based virtual assistant embodied in the Echo speaker. 

As the YouTube post below indicates; there is definitely potential in Alexa. Imagine not having to navigate a call center menu, or a mobile app or web site for that matter. Instead you could be asking Alexa about car insurance quotes whilst preparing dinner. 

Or how about this: you're an underwriter and Alexa is an interface to your Policy Administration System. In a meeting with a broker, and throughout that meeting you could be dictating instructions to Alexa who in turn is interfacing with back office systems to build up a draft quote. After the meeting you get back to your desk and the basic quote is ready and waiting for you to build out.

Alexa's insurance "skills" are certainly worth keeping an eye on.
